Yahoo/AIM, texting & emails…all of that doesn’t cut it for me. Call me. Talk to me for an hour and tell me how your day was. This new venue of “communication” via electronics & technology is tearing society apart. I remember way back when, we didn’t use any messenger programs to get to know someone. And guess what?…it seems as though as relationships were better and more exciting during that time. I still love rolling around in the bed, for hours, talking to a guy that I adore. Where’s the chemistry if you’re chatting online with someone you’re interested in? The sound of a man’s voice is a turn on for me. The way he laughes. The way he says my name. You can’t get that from an Arial font. You can’t grasp the essence of that from an email. There are times where I do enjoy talking to a potential via a chatting program (yahoo messenger, AIM, google chat & etc), but that’s only from work and/or when I am too busy at home to actually talk over the phone. However, this is not a proper venue to “get to know someone better”. Please don’t think just because we talk every now and then on Yahoo messenger, that constitutes as formal conversation. You still have to CALL me. You still have to TALK to me, for more than 5 minutes. This new lazy trend is annoying to the fullest. And it’s taking away from getting that full attachment with someone. I would never have a serious conversation where I am typing out my feelings. This leads to more misunderstandings & empty responses. Call me old but this new generation blows.
I was reading this young lady’s twitter & I was highly moved by her tweets. Here are some snippets:
Reasons why I am a feminist
women’s work is never done and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or repetitious
and we’re the first to get fired
and what we look like is more important than what we do and if we get raped it’s our fault
and if we get beaten we must have provoked it
and if we raise our voices we’re nagging bitches
and if we enjoy sex we’re nymphos
and if we don’t enjoy sex we’re frigid
and if we love women it’s because we can’t get a “real” man
and if we ask our doctor too many questions we’re neurotic and/or pushy
and if we expect childcare we’re selfish
and if we stand up for our rights we’re aggressive and “unfeminine”
and if we don’t we’re typical weak females
and if we want to get married we’re out to trap a man and if we don’t we’re unnatural
and cuz we still cant get an adequate safe contraceptive but men can walk on the moon
and if we can’t cope or don’t want a pregnancy we’re made to feel guilty about abortion
and…for lots of other reasons.

I’m not old (neither are you) but I totally agree. Funny enough, my first speech of this semester was an informative speech on how technology has depreciated methods of socialization. I touched bases on texting, emailing, and social networks in general as opposed to calling or meeting in person. This is all VERY true. No one picks up the phone anymore. It has gotten so bad that I actually don’t enjoy talking on the phone because I’m not used to it. As for the girl’s tweets — dead on. I believe all of those things. I’m afraid to be that .. well radical, because I know it won’t be accepted. Hmph.

I may be slightly weird, because while I agree every mentioned here, I’m not a huge phone talker either. I think some people get lazy with that too; love talking on the phone but plans to meet up and actually converse and enjoy each others company consistently fall through.
