Do you remember the first time you ever got on the internet? My first time was in 1998 when I was in the army. My battle buddy used to be on AOL all the time and I didn’t know what the big deal was. I signed on under her account one day and was bombarded with so many people wanting to chat. I chatted for about an hour and then decided that it was “stupid”. I left it alone for a few years and then in 2001, I treated myself to a Gateway computer (worst computer ever!). It came with a free one year subscription to AOL. Boy, did I have a good time! I was a late bloomer to the internet trend (22 to be exact), so of course, like a child with a new toy, I stayed up for hours learning about chatting, reading online articles and started dabbling in “web pages”. But what I hated the most was the dial up service. Remember that annoying noise? The fact that you couldn’t use your phone? Or when you lost connection?
Soon after, I upgraded to dsl. I still had to use my phone line, but the speed was faster, there were no disconnections, and I was able to still receive phone calls. However, the cost was at least $25 per month, the technical support was limited, and I kept getting virus alerts.
There are some people who still believe in the dial-up services. However, not a lot of companies are offering this. Cable is the most used internet service worldwide, but it’s also expensive, still hanging in there at $50 per month. Copper.net is a great company for those who are looking for an affordable internet service, without the high costs. At just $9.95 per montth, you get free technical support, 56K Dial-up Internet Service, and high levels of internet security.
